Getting Interactive with #UltimateDinos

Dino love. My younger kids have it bad. They are fascinated by the thought of these larger than life creatures once roaming the earth. They love how these prehistoric creatures could come in all different sizes and that they had once roamed the earth. I jumped at the invitation to visit the Canadian Museum of Nature to take in their newest exhibit Ultimate Dinosaurs. I could not wait to see their faces when they came face to face with their skeletons and fossils and were able to interact this exhibit!

Ultimate Dinosaurs showcases dinosaurs from the ancient southern hemisphere supercontinent of Gondwana (a huge land mass that existed about 180 million years ago which incorporated what is now known as South America, Africa, India, Antarctica, Australia, New Guinea and the Arabian Peninsula).  16 fully-articulated skeletons are on display, including a 12-metre-long Giganotosaurus, one of the largest carnivores that ever lived. What is so exciting about this exhibit is that it displays types of dinosaurs are not found in North America. This exhibit was created by the Royal Ontario Museum and is presented by the Science Museum of Minnesota.

As we exited the elevator for our visit to this exhibit, we were welcomed and guided by a set of dino footprints to the exhibit.

Our first steps into the exhibit introduced us with a trio of dinosaurs my kids spent a good 10 minutes visiting with. They especially liked the Eoraptor because it was so small and cute. I loved how I was able to learn about these dinos from the podium in front of the display as well as the video background.

If there is one word I would use to describe Ultimate Dinosaurs, it would be interactive. There are so many areas and ways for visitors to learn hands-on about the dinos of Gondwana. My son got to learn about different types of fossils by actually getting to touch them! He was able to hold and touch ceratopsian horns, and his favourite, dino poop fossils!

Throughout the exhibit, there are stations visitors can learn about the different dinosaurs on display. Once each station has been completed, you can stamp an impression of the dino featured onto a card. My daughter had fun learning about each of these dinosaurs and then collecting all of the stamps. She was so proud when she had all of the impressions and was telling me about the activities she enjoyed most.

I really liked how there play areas set up around the exhibit for visitors to be able to get away from the screens for a moment to just let loose and play. My kids spent a good amount of time at all of these stations, playing with some of the dinosaurs featured in this exhibit. They loved being able to touch, role play and eventually leave the dinos of Gondwana so they can nap while we looked through the rest of the exhibit. This is just a snippet of the fun they had.

Another fabulous feature of Ultimate Dinosaurs is how augmented reality technology is used to wow and educate visitors. With our naked eyes, we were able to see the skeletons of dinosaurs. Looking through and manoeuvring the screen allowed us to see the skeleton come to life with flesh and skin covering the skeleton before us. We were even able to learn more about this animal when pressing the buttons on the screen. I thought this was amazing!

I thought the interactive tablets set into displays around Ultimate Dinosaurs was a brilliant idea! Visitors are able to learn how to pronounce names of some of the dinos in the exhibit, as well as the meaning of their names, their relative size, and other fun tidbits about these awesome creatures. Take a look at my daughter’s favourite dino!

It was hard to want to call it a day at Ultimate Dinosaurs! They loved seeing the skeletons and fossils of dinosaurs that they have not seen before, learning is accomplished in so many different formats, and it is such a fun exhibit to visit! We really did not want to leave. We can’t wait to bring my other half to see it. He would have as much fun visiting this exhibit as we did.

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Adele – “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)”

Hey Readers!

It’s finally Victoria Day here in the nation’s capital. The family and I have had an amazing long weekend so far. we spent a lot of time in our backyard, and my other half build a table in about 45 minutes for us to dine on Saturday night in our backyard oasis (there nothing this guy can do)!

As I was thinking about what I would share for today’s MMMM pick, this was the criteria I was looking for:

  • British (you know, since it’s the Queen’s b-day we’re suppose to be celebrating)
  • a little more mellow, but with a bit of a kick
  • is inspiring or fun.

I was totally (sorry, but this word needed to be used here :P) going to choose something different, but after waking up and checking out my Facebook feed, I knew I had to share this song instead: Adele’s “Send My Love.”

Oh, Readers! LOVE, love, love, love this song! It continues to let me know that some people may think that some of my decisions may have been unconventional, that it was the right one, and I am better for it, because I should have made is much sooner.

Here are Adele’s lyrics that resonate with me the most:

“I was too strong you were trembling
You couldn’t handle the hot heat rising
Rising…
Baby I’m so rising
I was running, you were walking
You couldn’t keep up, you were falling down
Down…
Mmm there’s only one way down…”

I was just getting better and felt that I was being held back by someone that was too comfortable where they were. I wanted to soar, yet was being anchored. It was time to go, so I did.

This song is about realizing how to let go of the past and forgiving what has happened. This is something I still need some work on, but Adele is helping in this department (thanks, Adele!).

“Send My Love” also hits my criteria for today’s pick. British? Check! More mellow? Check. Inspiring or fun? Checkaroo!  Though I was looking for something more fun, the inspiring factor of this song won out, and it’s Adele for crying out loud! She gets my vote today!

I hope that “Send My Love” can help to inspire you to become better on this gorgeous and not so mundane Victoria Day Monday morning!

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Des’ree – “You Gotta Be”

Mornin’ Readers!

A bit (which means a lot) of inspiration is the order  of the day today. It was an interesting weekend that made me process a lot of things, making me push all of the things on my “to-do list” to today.

I am so happy I have this week’s MMMM pick to give me some guidance and a much needed pick-me-up to my spirit. I’ve selected Des’ree’s “You Gotta Be” to get me back on track for the day and for the week. This song always pops into my life when I need it. It has always given me the strength to accomplish what I needed to do, face up to my fears, and has given me the push to always strive to be better than I was yesterday.

Check out the first verse to see what I mean. It is some of the best advice I have ever heard:

“Listen as your day unfolds, challenge what the future holds
Try and keep your head up to the sky
Lovers, they may cause you tears
Go ahead release your fears, stand up and be counted
Don’t be ashamed to cry”

This song is like that friend who is always with me in my darkest hours. When it finds me, I am able to breathe again. Almost 20 years later, “You Gotta Be”is still relevant, and is such a great song I have on the soundtrack of my life. I am forever grateful that this song exists.

I hope that “You Gotta Be” gives you the push you need to get up and slay any dragons this mundane Monday morning may put in your path.

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Meghan Trainor: “Better When I’m Dancin'”

Mornin’ Readers,

Easter Monday is here. It is a cold and gray affair, raining cats and dogs. I know that rain is part of the spring experience, but not for the end of a holiday weekend! It is also adding to the dreariness of Monday morning.

Since Easter is all about fun and colour, I thought I’d go with this pop number for my MMMM pick this week: Meghan Trainor’s “Better When I’m Dancin’.” Ever since I heard it played in The Peanuts Movie a few months ago, it has been dancing around in my head and making me smile. This is the second Meghan Trainor song I’ve fallen in love with for the simple fact that they are inspiring. They get you to want to become more confident.  Check out these lyrics:

“Show the world you’ve got that fire (fire)
Feel the rhythm getting louder
Show the room what you can do
Prove to them you got the moves…”

This song is about dancing, but it also applies to how to approach life. Meghan Trainor’s encouraging people who may be a bit shy to get out there and show the world what you’ve got. No one else truly know what you’re capable of but you, so it’s up to you to do it. Sometimes, some people just need to hear words of encouragement to step outside of their shell to become great. Besides, I have to start dancing when I hear this song, too!  😛

I hope that “Better When I’m Dancin'” brings some colour, encouragement and a smile while you’re dancing on this other than stellar mundane Monday morning!

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Janelle Monae – “Tightrobe”

Hey Readers!

Spring is here! The sun is out, the snow is almost gone, and life is back to normal since March Break is over. I then took a look at my To-Do List, and saw the mountain of tasks I have to accomplish this week.  ***insert cringing face here***

Inspiration, motivation and funk were definitely needed for a day like today! After a bit of a search this morning, I found all of these traits in Janelle Monae’s “Tightrope.” This song is all about keeping your balance in life no matter what is happening and to focus on you, not world around you. It helped me assess my goals for the day and to make me feel better about me.”Tightrope” has a powerful message combined with an awesome and funky beat. How can you not love this song?

Hopefully, you are able to find balance in your world and to have fun while listening to my MMMM pick “Tightrope” on this mundane Monday morning.

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: The Beatles – “Got to Get You Into My Life”

Morning Readers!

I have been away fro such a long time! Kids being sick for practically a month kept me away for so long. I knew I couldn’t stay away for another Monday morning without sharing a MMMM song.

It’s a gray day here in my neck of the woods. It is also the last Monday of winter!!!! You have no idea just how exciting this is for me. The snow and ice are beginning to disappear, and warmer weather is ushering out the cold breezes we had this winter. I want to start seeing grass and flowers popping out of the ground and begin to enjoy my backyard more.

Since I want spring and the sun to come back into my world, I thought that The Beatles’ “Got to Get You Into My Life” would be a great pick! It’s peppy, upbeat and it’s helping me shoo winter away to make way for spring. I also love this song because my kids love this song of the from The Beatles’ Revolver album and because of the Minions Movie.

So I hope that “Got to Get You Into My Life” lifts the gray skies and bring spring into your mundane Monday morning today! It already has for me!

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Queen – “We Will Rock You”

Morning Readers!

I know, I’m a bit late on my MMMM post, but I had to get it out this week. THE Big Game is only six days away, I had to kick the week off right!

Since it’s a sporty-kind of week, I decided to share a fun song that is one of my favourite warm-up songs. It is Queen’s “We Will Rock You.” Along with it being an awesome song by Queen, it’s the perfect song to get going in the morning, as well as to get pumped up and in the spirit for a big game.

So, I hope that this song gets you revved up for the hectic work week ahead, as well as for one of the biggest sporting events of the year (well, for some any way 😛 ). I’ll have my home ready and my football jersey on the whole day this coming Sunday rockin’ this song all day long!

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Cyndi Lauper – “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”

Hey Readers!

I know, I’ve been away too long! The holidays, then the start of the New Year have really disoriented me, and, unfortunately, this feature became neglected the chaos. Thankfully, I carved out some time this morning to get back on devout some time to posting a new song to start off the year right.

Some of my fellow bloggers have posed the question, “What word would you use to describe your year?” After a bit of thought and an impromptu family dance session with my family last night of 80s music, I came up with my word of 2016. It is fun. Whether it be in learning, becoming more successful or getting out more, I want to have fun doing it. Besides, what’s the point of living without enjoying the journey you’re on?

Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” encompasses my sense of fun and is such an amazing song to use to start off 2016 for this feature! Besides its unforgettable beat, the lyrics are all about girl empowerment. Lauper is encouraging her parents to not treat her differently because she is a girl. She is also saying that girls should not shy away from their greatness and should be allowed to shine.

So I have decided to take a page from Cyndi Lauper’s playbook this year and have fun, no matter what I’m doing and to make me a better me this year! I hope that “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”has inspired you to be your best you, to have fun, and to take the blahs away on this mundane Monday morning.

Do you have a word that would describe how you want to live this year, or your life?

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Moring Music: Salt ‘N Peppa – “Shoop”

Hey Readers!

It’s been a while since I have shared a MMMM post. My life has become hectic since the VP of Cuteness started school this fall. The landscape of the blogisphere has changed for me, so I have had to learn to adjust. I  know it is a bit late for it this morning, but I would have been sad if I did not share one this week!

Bundled up in my favourite blanket while I clack away on my laptop, I felt I needed a song that will help me move around and get warm. I decided to go back to my teen years for a fun song that always made me dance and sing along. This week’s MMMM pick is “Snoop” by Salt N’ Peppa. This song is peppy, fun, and has a lick that will stay in my head all day! I need a fun song like this to get me though the rest of the tasks of my day, and a bit of nostalgic memories with my friends also helps make my day brighter.

I hope that “Snoop” get you dancing in your chair and makes your day brighter on this mundane Monday morning!

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Keri Hilson – “Pretty Girl Rock”

Hey Readers!

This feature is back! I’m keeping it short and sweet today because I’m in a time crunch this morning, but I missed my MMMM picks, so I had to share one today!

The weekend was dreary, the kids and I are sick, and sleep pretty much does not exist at this point in time, so I need a pick-me-up!

Keri Hilson came to the rescue this morning! Her anthem song “Pretty Girl Rock” is getting me out of my dense fog so I can clack at my keyboard. Besides having a good beat, this song about positive self image and not hating on others so it’s a win-win for me! This way of thinking is needed as we need to lift people up and be there to support one another more. How can you not stop yourself from dancing and singing along to this song!  I’m doing all of this while mummified from neck to toes (except for my hands) in a blanket. I love it!

I hope that “Pretty Girl Rock” helps get you in a better mood this morning on this mundane Monday morning!

Until my next post, Readers!
