Mundane Monday Morning Music: Keri Hilson – “Pretty Girl Rock”

Hey Readers!

This feature is back! I’m keeping it short and sweet today because I’m in a time crunch this morning, but I missed my MMMM picks, so I had to share one today!

The weekend was dreary, the kids and I are sick, and sleep pretty much does not exist at this point in time, so I need a pick-me-up!

Keri Hilson came to the rescue this morning! Her anthem song “Pretty Girl Rock” is getting me out of my dense fog so I can clack at my keyboard. Besides having a good beat, this song about positive self image and not hating on others so it’s a win-win for me! This way of thinking is needed as we need to lift people up and be there to support one another more. How can you not stop yourself from dancing and singing along to this song!  I’m doing all of this while mummified from neck to toes (except for my hands) in a blanket. I love it!

I hope that “Pretty Girl Rock” helps get you in a better mood this morning on this mundane Monday morning!

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: The Black Eyed Peas – ”I Gotta Feeling”

Hey Readers!

I know, I took another week off! My life has been a bit hectic, and I needed a bit of a break. I had to come back this week for this feature because it is one of my favourite weeks of the year. It’s the last week of summer vacation! This is the last unofficial week of summer where families can have fun and get away without having to celebrate a holiday, or for people to have fun before the weather starts to turn and school starts.

Since this is the last week of fun before schedules start to shift, I always have to share a party song that also to help say goodbye to the summer. This week’s MMMM pick to signal the end of summer is The Black Eyed Peas’ ”I Gotta Feeling.” This song is such a fun song to get going in the morning or to hang out with your friends with while relaxing at a barbecue. it’s all about having fun and getting ready to have fun. It focuses on the here and now, enjoying the moment, and not worrying about what tomorrow brings, whether it be work, school or the end of the summer.

I hope that you are able to be in the moment, lift your glass and have some fun for the rest of this summer with ”I Gotta Feeling” on this mundane Monday morning!

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Corinne Bailey Rae – “Put Your Records On”

Mornin’ Readers!

The summer is quickly coming to a close, and it has been a short and busy one. I’m getting ready for two ”Bosses” to attend school this year, looking after them during the day, visiting family, and the usual checklist of things I do during the week.

When everything on my list is done, I do like kickin’ back with my other half in our backyard oasis while the ”Bosses” are running around exploring, and relaxing and decompressing. It is rare, especially with toddlers and no babysitter, to just get to chat and have fun. We relish these moments, and take advantage of them as much as possible!

Being able to take a moment out life to relax and inspired this week’s MMMM pick. It is Corinne Bailey Rae’s ”Put Your Records On.” It’s all about relaxing and having fun while chatting and reminiscing about good times. I love doing this with my other half, and I can’t wait to do this with my girls when we get the chance to get together.

I hope ”Put Your Records On” gets you in better spirits and gets you through this mundane Monday morning on a good note!

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Will Smith – ”Miami”

Mornin’ Readers!

It looks like it’s going to be another dog day of summer here in my neck of the woods! Don’t get me wrong, I love the summer heat, and I would take over the frigid cold of Ottawa winters any day, but I just wish that the heat was not so intense.

Since the past week or so has been so humid, I thought that this week’s MMMM pick should reflect the weather and the amount of fun it should bring. This week’s feel good song is Will Smith’s ”Miami.” I’d love to be in Miami having fun with my friends and enjoying the nightlife, or relaxing on the beach with the family for a few days. This song put you right there in the thick of it, putting you in a good mood while you listen to it.

I hope that you can get your groove on while listening to ”Miami” on this mundane Monday morning to make your day better!

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Barenaked Ladies – “Pinch Me”

Mornin’ Readers!

Here in my neck of the woods of Canada’s capital, we are at the end of our Victoria Day Weekend. A great time was had by all of us, and I will be sad to see this day end. The time in our #backyardoasis has been fabulous, sneaking in naps was a welcome treat, and I can’t wait to visit the Canadian Tulip Festival which will ends today at Commissioner’s Park at Dow’s Lake. This is one of my favourite festivals to attend in Ottawa, and I want to see what new tulips have bloomed this year.

So, you’d think that since this is a long weekend that I would have taken advantage of sleeping in, right? Well, that was not the case for me today, unless you call being up at 6 am to tie up some loose ends before enjoying the day with the family sleeping in!  😛 If you have popped in to this feature on a long weekend Monday before, you would notice that for these editions, I like to take things a little easier than I usually do.  I like listening to a song that has a good beat, but is a bit more mellowed out (except for Labour Day Weekend, that ‘s a party day!). Since it is a Canadian holiday today , I thought I would choose a song from a Canadian artist. This week’s MMMM pick is “Pinch Me” from the Barenaked Ladies. Though this song is about depression, “Pinch Me” is great song for a day like today where all I want to do is kick my feet up and relax while I work from my laptop or my smartphone while we’re in our backyard, or taking some snapshots of some gorgeous flowers this morning. I am not ready to get back to the monotony of the work week just yet.  The beat is so dreamy and laid back, and the lyrics are fun to listen to while sipping on a fun drink and hanging out with friends in this gorgeous mid-spring weather.

I hope that “Pinch Me” does not wake you from your this fabulous dream weekend and helps you celebrate a relaxing day today! Cheers!

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Meghan Trainor – “All About That Bass”

Mornin’ Readers!

For once, I am getting this post out (somewhat) on time! It has been an early morning, and I am actually in a fun mood.

I thought that a bit of “Girl Power” in order for this week’s MMMM pick. Since I feel like dancing around a bit, I thought that Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” was in order. This song is all about loving your body, and I love it! The beat is also super playful, so I can’t stay in my chair for this song!

I hope that “All About That Bass” is getting you going on this mundane Monday morning, and that you have a fabulous week!

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Fergie – “Clumsy”

Mornin’ Readers!

It is the day after my birthday week extravaganza, and it was an amazing week! I received presents from my family in packages and phone calls and posts from friends and family members to wish me well. I also was taken out for lunch by one of my best friends which turned into an afternoon of fun, and got to see the Globetrotters while they stopped into the nation’s capital on my birthday! This past week was really amazing, and I really appreciated all of the love I received!

The day after a world wind week of celebrating has me feeling a little bit foggy and groggy and sore. Let’s just say there are muscles I have rediscovered after all of the running around I’ve done this week, and fat fingers seem to be the order of the day so far this morning. ;P  That is why I think that this week’s MMMM pick is perfect for a day like today. I chose Fergie’s “Clumsy” because I am definitely feeling as though I am fumbling through this morning. This song also has that lick from Little Richard’s song “The Girl Can’t Help It” that gives Fergie’s song a throwback feel that is fun and flirty. It has really helped to bring the gorgeous weather we here in Ottawa have been waiting for all spring inside to cheer me up!

I hope that this mundane Monday morning has been made a little brighter and fun with “Clumsy” running through your head!

Until my next post, Readers!

National Siblings Day: Fond Memories and Great Life Lessons

Hey Readers! Today is National Siblings Day, and it got me thinking about my two older siblings and everything we have been through through my lifetime. There are so many memories and lessons that both of my siblings taught me (whether they were aware of it or not), and they make me feel happy that they are in my life. They helped to make this little lady into the woman I am today. Even then, I was tipping my hat to people!

NSDMe-A

Here is a pic of the three of us many moons ago! Yes, Mr. T was a big influence on me, Readers! 😛

NSDGroup-A

My older brother, for the most part, was the main male influence in my life when I was little. He was the oldest and was also the only boy. I felt, at times, that he was a bit lonely, especially since there was a bit of a gap between him and rest of us (he is four years older than my sister and 5 1/2 years older than me). He did what many older siblings did, you know, hog the television when our mom wasn’t watching it, tell us tall tales about why things were the way they were, and use us as guinea pigs for his various “experiments.”

One of my favourite memories has to be when I was about five years-old, and my brother thought he was a gourmet baker. He decided that he would make a cake from cake mix and thought he knew what he was doing. After putting in WAY too many eggs into the mix, resulting in a very gloppy and bubbly mess after he took it out of the oven. Realizing that he shouldn’t be the first to taste his masterpiece, he turned to us to see if the cake tasted okay. let’s just say we let him know just how great his creative cake was with a mess all our own all over our tiny kitchen! Even though my brother did all of these things to my sister and I, there were other things my brother did that helped me learn some great lessons throughout my time at home.

Out of all of us, he was the quiet one, so I learned how to stop blabbing all the time and to try listening once in a while to what others are saying. He also taught us how to play video games and introduced me to the wonderful world of comic books that I still enjoy today. His closet became my closet, too. There were times that he allowed me to borrow his clothes during my tom boyish phase throughout high school. The fact that the jeans I borrowed from him were baggy on him didn’t stop me from sporting the latest fashion trends (they were a waist men’s size 44, and I was lucky enough to be a women’s size 24…yeah, it was fun to keep these babies up!). My brother is a very interesting cat who, for being the quiet one, never gave our home a dull moment and let us know he cares about us in his subtle ways.

This is an even older pic of my big brother. He had to be about four or five years-old here. Like me, he’s camera shy.

NSDKevin-A

My older sister and I have had an interesting relationship. When we were younger, we had our love-hate moments, but, if push came to shove (you know, fights over clothes and make up), we always could depend on each other. My sister is also a very funny character and there were times that I had to explain certain things to her. There were song lyrics I had to correct for her (ex – “Soap On A Rope” was really “End Of The Road”,) and the many times we played practical jokes on other family members, both at home and on road trips. It took a while for me to realize just how much my big sis really cared about me, and now we are the best of friends.

My sister has and continues to teach me so many life lessons. She plays Devil’s advocate to see things from another point of view. She calms me down and makes me sit on my hands when I get too upset about a situation. She taught me to do things for myself when she knew I could do it on my own. I learned so many fashion tips and tricks from her over the years as a result of plundering her closet time and time again. She taught me to expand my appreciation of music by having to listen to some of her “questionable” choices (some of them have been used in my Mundane Monday Morning Music picks). I continue to learn how to face the unknown without fear as she experienced different situations in her life. Finally, she continues to teach me that life is a crazy adventure, and to have fun along the way, especially when you get lost (as we have on MANY occasions)! She sets such an example for me to try and live up to. I don’t know what I would do without this crazy and clever cat!

I don’t have any pics of her when she was a child. This one I found in an old wallet of mine from high school. She loves the camera, and it loves her, too!

NSDMandi-A

So there you have it! We have had our ups and downs, but we are siblings and we love each other a bunch. I am raising my “bosses” to love each other and to look out for one another every day. I hope that they have such fond memories of each other as they become adults and giggle at their cute, fun and goofy pics of when they were young like I have today.

NSDKids-A

Are you the oldest, the middle or the youngest child? What was the best memory or lesson you were taught by your siblings?

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: The Birthday Edition

Morning Readers!

As spring is now upon us and the Easter Weekend comes to an end, I am so happy that I am getting to start to celebrate my birthday this week! I like doing little things over the next week to make my birthday feel that much more fun and special.

Reese Speaks Birthday Pic 2

For this week’s MMMM, I decided to choose a few of my fav B-Day songs that are fun and will start off this week in an awesome way!

I love the Beatles, and the “Birthday” song from The Beatles or “The White Album” is a fun one to listen to!

For more of a chair-dancing experience, I added Katy Perry’s “Birthday” song. Who would not want to be treated like every day is your birthday?!

Of course, being the HUGE Stevie Wonder fan I am, I HAD to had his version of “Happy Birthday” on this list of birthday songs!” A birthday is not a birthday for me listening to it about 40 times on repeat! 😛

It will be a fun week, and I can’t wait until the big day arrives and all of the surprises that are in store for me. These songs are certainly putting me into the birthday spirit!

I hope that these songs make your day a little bit brighter and make you smile today!

What is your favourite version of “The Birthday Song” to hear on your special day?

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Adele – “Rolling In The Deep”

Mornin’ Readers!

March is almost over, and I am so looking forward to this upcoming 4-Day long weekend on the horizon! Baking, relaxing and the annual visit from the Easter Bunny are all big events my family has on tap to do!

Since my “bosses” decided to have their volume set to full blast, I figured I should pick a MMMM song that could be played and sung, if you wished, at full blast. I got a great suggestion from friend and fellow blogger Louise from Baby Gates Down (a favourite blog of mine to follow, especially her Musical A-Z feature), but I decided to leave this one for warmer weather this morning. I’ll let you know which song she put into my head when I use it later on this year (thanks, Louise!  :P)

My choice this morning is Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep.” I love Adele! Her voice is amazing, and she is just so honest and real. I like when artists can just be themselves without any pretension; it’s just very refreshing to see! I know that this song is about heartbreak and pain, but, for me, this song helped me get over some of the tension that Monday mornings usually bring with everything I have to accomplish toady along with my “bosses” moving around at Mach 5 until they go on “break” (nap time). This song allows me to sing out loud (much to the chagrin of the “bosses”) and at ease, ready to take on what the rest of my day has to bring.

I hope that “Rolling In The Deep” gets you belting out the lyrics and get put into a good mood on this mundane Monday morning!

Until my next post, Readers!
