Mundane Monday Morning Music: Janelle Monae – “Tightrobe”

Hey Readers!

Spring is here! The sun is out, the snow is almost gone, and life is back to normal since March Break is over. I then took a look at my To-Do List, and saw the mountain of tasks I have to accomplish this week.  ***insert cringing face here***

Inspiration, motivation and funk were definitely needed for a day like today! After a bit of a search this morning, I found all of these traits in Janelle Monae’s “Tightrope.” This song is all about keeping your balance in life no matter what is happening and to focus on you, not world around you. It helped me assess my goals for the day and to make me feel better about me.”Tightrope” has a powerful message combined with an awesome and funky beat. How can you not love this song?

Hopefully, you are able to find balance in your world and to have fun while listening to my MMMM pick “Tightrope” on this mundane Monday morning.

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: The Birthday Edition

Morning Readers!

As spring is now upon us and the Easter Weekend comes to an end, I am so happy that I am getting to start to celebrate my birthday this week! I like doing little things over the next week to make my birthday feel that much more fun and special.

Reese Speaks Birthday Pic 2

For this week’s MMMM, I decided to choose a few of my fav B-Day songs that are fun and will start off this week in an awesome way!

I love the Beatles, and the “Birthday” song from The Beatles or “The White Album” is a fun one to listen to!

For more of a chair-dancing experience, I added Katy Perry’s “Birthday” song. Who would not want to be treated like every day is your birthday?!

Of course, being the HUGE Stevie Wonder fan I am, I HAD to had his version of “Happy Birthday” on this list of birthday songs!” A birthday is not a birthday for me listening to it about 40 times on repeat! 😛

It will be a fun week, and I can’t wait until the big day arrives and all of the surprises that are in store for me. These songs are certainly putting me into the birthday spirit!

I hope that these songs make your day a little bit brighter and make you smile today!

What is your favourite version of “The Birthday Song” to hear on your special day?

Until my next post, Readers!

Year-End Wrap, 2014!

Hey Readers!

It’s almost 2015, so it is only fitting that I do a year-end wrap of everything I loved about Reese Speaks for 2014! It was a really good year, and I am so pleased with what I have accomplished. I have written more posts this year, both for myself and for other blogs/publications than I did this year, and the experiences I had were so interesting and fun.  Here are a few of my fav parts of 2014!

Fav Posts

The Tulip Festival – I wrote quite a few posts this past year, so this has to be the hardest section to pick my favs from! Out of all of the posts I wrote for Reese Speaks, one of my favs had to be about visiting this festival at Dow’s Lake here in Ottawa, ON! I really love going to this festival every year as the varieties of tulips are all so beautiful to look at, and I loved all of the exhibits, statues and entertainment available for festival-goers to take in.  I can’t wait to see what this festival has in store for attendees this coming year!

Saucy Pork Tenderloin – Out of all of the food I shared with you this year, this recipe for my other half’s Saucy Pork Tenderloin had to be my absolute fav! I dream about this dish! It was juicy, flavourful, and, well, saucy! It’s also easy to make, as I even attempted to make this dish myself last year! It is one that you should try for yourself one night for dinner!

PT 2

My Encounters of the Y&R Kind – This post was a great one for me to write about because I got to share with you one of my secret passions away from the computer: The Young and the Restless. It is my fav soap, and I have been watching it since I could remember. I also love how the stars of the show like to interact with their fans, and I wrote about how getting into the fab world of social media allows me to get them know them more as people away from their roles.

Can you guess which autograph belongs to which actors on Y&R? Guess which one belongs to Eric Braeden? Trust me, it's not a hard one to find! :P

Fav Experiences

Ottawa’s Italian Week Festival – This is an experience I like to enjoy with my kids every year! I like to spend a day on Preston Street celebrating with other revelers of this festival, watching beautiful cars race by, playing with my kids at the mini amusement park set up for them to enjoy, and enjoying the community come out for events to celebrate their heritage.

Meeting Melody Thomas Scott – This was such a great Ladies’ Day out at the Women’s Show with my friend, Sandy, as Y&R watchers, we got to meet MTS! She was funny and really down to earth. It was so much fun to also talk to other soap lovers while we waited for the show to get started as well as in line to meet the soap icon.  It was a day I will never forget!

YRMTSAndMe-A

Getting Engaged – This has to be put on the highlight reel for my year-end wrap, because, well, it’s a big step in my life! As I said in the post, I’m not too sure as to the ins and outs of this new stage in my life, but it was a surprise from my other half, and one that we can explore together until we take the next step: Marriage!

Fav MMMM Picks

Radio Head – “15 Step” – I was never a big Radio Head fan until my other half introduced me to them. Then I fell in love with them instantly! This is one of my fav songs from this group, and off of their In Rainbows album. It is also very different from most of my MMMM picks, which is another reason why I chose this pick as one of my favs this year!

No Doubt – “Underneath It All” – I have loved No Doubt for a long time, and I chose this MMMM pick as one of my favs because it was my fav of the picks that I chose to play for a long weekend to mellow things out, yet still get you in a good mood to start off your day. This is one of my fav songs from this group as well.

Montell Jordan – “This Is How We Do It” – Although this song was also played on a long weekend, I chose this song as one of my favs for two reasons: a) It’s a fab song to get moving to any day of the week, including the Labour Day Long Weekend Monday; and b) it was also my most popular MMMM post this year! What can I say, a lot of people love this song!

Fav Christmas Picks

Christmas Movie Picks: Family Edition – Out of all of the television and movie picks I wrote this Christmas season, this one had to be my fav because these were favs of my family that we watched over and over again, not only during this Christmas, but throughout the year as well.

Chuck Berry – “Run, Rudolph, Run” – I chose this MMMM pick that was also a part of my Christmas Hit List because it is a fav with my family, and it is a song that got us all in the Christmas spirit! We listened to this song  A LOT over the past few weeks, and I know will be requested to be heard over and over again during future Christmas seasons!

Mary J. Blige – “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” – I will probably have this song played on my Christmas Hit List every year.  I love Mary J. Blige, and her version of this song gets me really excited about Christmas Day.  I try not to play this song too much until a few days before the big day, and when it is played on Christmas Day, it makes me think about all of the good things that have happened throughout the year, and how thankful I am to have the amazing family and friends I have around me.

I Had A Lot Help From My Friends

Okay, Readers, this is a wrap for my Year-End Wrap, 2014! These were some of the bright spots on Reese Speaks this year. My year would not have been as bright if it was not for so many people! My first thanks has to go to you, Readers! A blog, big or small, is supported by those who take the time to read it, and I have to thank you for all of the support you have given me! I also want to thank other bloggers who follow my blog. The blogging community is such a supportive one, and I love how great bloggers can be.  Thank you to the blogs and publications that allowed me to read the stories they share, and to allow me to share on their sites as well! Last, but certainly not least, to my family. These people are not just the people who I am related to (who I love dearly and thanks profusely everyday), but who are my friends who are like family to me.  You have helped me, supported me, listened to me (patiently) when needed to vent, and have made me a better person by allowing me to learn from you. I am eternally grateful to you, and I am humbled to be around. Thank you, whether I’m related to you, engaged to you, or who I have met along this crazy journey of life, for this past year, and the help you have given to my blog.

I wish everyone the best for 2015, and let’s see what experiences I will get to share with you this year at Reese Speaks!

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Muppet Christmas Music

Hey, Readers!

This was one of my favourite posts from last year! I had to share it again with you because of how much I enjoy The Muppets, and Christmas is not Christmas without them at my home. Below are some of my favourite Muppet Christmas moments.

Enjoy and take care!

Reese.

Christmas is will be here soon!  I thought I would share something my family and I always enjoy when getting into the spirit of Christmas.  I shared some of my favourite Muppet Christmas music!  I couldn’t post just one video, so I picked a few for your viewing/listening pleasure.

My first pick is from The Muppet Christmas Carol.  It’s the song “It Feels Like Christmas.”

The next pick is The Muppet’s version of  “Carol of the Bells” called “Ringing of the Bells.”  I thought this one was very funny and cute so I couldn’t resist adding this song!

To wrap things up for this post, I thought it would be fitting to back to Muppet Christmas Carol for The Muppets and Michael Caine singing the song “Thankful Heart.”  This song reminds me to celebrate this time of the year by giving thanks for what we have, and for caring and looking out for others.  Actually, Readers, I try to have this mindset throughout the whole year, and not just at Christmas.

I hope this brings a smile to your face, as well as some happy, nostalgic memories to warm your heart this Monday morning!

Do yo love The Muppets? Do you have a favourite Muppet moment or movie?

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Rhianna – Diamonds

Hey Readers!

It’s the end of a long weekend here in Ottawa! It is the unofficial start to the summer season, and so many festivals are going to begin!

Even though most people are fortunate enough to have the day off, I thought I would choose a song that would help to get you going, but at a slower pace. This week’s Mundane Monday Morning Music pick is “Diamonds” by Rhianna.

I hope that you can enjoy this week’s pick whether you’re lounging or if you’re on your way to work!

Enjoy your day!

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Tina Turner – Proud Mary

Hey Readers!

Since it’s such a fabulous morning, I thought I would choose a song from one of my favourite singers. This Mundane Monday Morning Music pick is “Proud Mary” by Tina Turner.

I LOVE this song!  I was surprised I did not choose this song before.  It’s perfect for a mundane Monday morning like today.  It’s starts out slow, then it gets fast and fun!  The infectious energy from this song helped the fog clear from my sleepy head so I can dance, sing and start my day on a good note!

I hope you turn the volume on high and get your mundane Monday morning started off in a great way with this pick!

Until my next post, Readers!

Reese.

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Joan Jett – Bad Reputation

Hey Readers!

It’s another mundane Monday morning, and I’m already missing the weekend!  I got to spend a lot of time together with my family this weekend, and now everyone has gone their separate ways for the day. **Sigh!**

I was inspired to choose this week’s Mundane Monday Morning Music pick after talking to my eldest about the show Freaks and Geeks, and about some of the teenage angst the characters on the show get themselves into during each episode.

The show used Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation” as its theme song, and it has playing in my head ever since I started talking about the show.  For me, it’s a great Mundane Monday Morning Music pick because it’s upbeat, edgy, and fun!

I hope “Bad Reputation” gets you rockin’ out not matter what you’re doing this morning!

Until my next post, Readers!

Reese.

Mundane Monday Morning Music: OutKast – Hey Ya!

Hey Readers!

After partying like a rock star with my youngest last night (please say you caught the sarcasm here!) and coming off of my Easter weekend sugar high, it took me forever to get going this morning.

This week’s pick was inspired by my eldest who was helping me choose a song since I was not 100% ready to go this morning. We were talking about songs that got us wanting to have fun, and “Hey Ya!” from OutKast popped into my head as this used to be one of her favourite songs when she was a little mover and groover.

Now that this song is in my head, I’m getting revved up to want to get going with my day! It’s one of my favourite OutKast songs, too.

I hope OutKast can break you out of your mundane Monday morning funk, and have you singing and shaking what you got like a Polaroid picture we are at my home right now!

Until my nest post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Technoronic – Pump Up the Jam

Hiya Readers!

Since this is my absolute favourite week of the year, I thought I would kick it off with a song to get this mundane Monday morning off to a great start!

I got the idea to pick Technoronic’s “Pump Up the Jam” actually a few days ago, and it stuck around in my head. It’s fun, it’s heart-pumping, and it always gets me dancing in my chair at my desk. How can you say no to this 90s classic?

I hope this week’s pick pumps up your mundane Monday morning!

Until my next post, Readers!

Reese.

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Kanye West – Stronger

Morning Readers!

Today kicks off the beginning of two weeks of events, projects and assignments I have to get through, and I can’t wait to just jump in and get everything started!

I thought that “Stronger” by Kanye West would fit the bill for this week’s Mundane Monday Morning Music pick. It’s upbeat, it’s fun, and the lick of this song (that don’t kill me can only make stronger) let’s me know that I can get through all of this and come out better than I went into it.

I hope this song helps you get through this mundane Monday morning, and that you are stronger coming out of this day than you were going in, Readers!

Until my next post, Readers!

Reese.
