Mundane Monday Morning Music: Salt-N-Pepa – “Push It”

Mornin’ (or Afternoon) Readers!

Today wasn’t the best of mornings. I barely slept, I feel sickly, and the “bosses” are keeping me on my toes.

I’m now catching up on work, and I can finally share this week’s MMMM pick with you. I chose “Push It” by Salt-N-Pepa because this song is a reason why I got out of bed this morning. The beat is energetic and infectious (no pun intended), got me moving and smiling so I would be able to make it down the stairs, helped me make my bosses giggle, and get me in front of my computer so I can accomplish my tasks while mummified in a comfy comforter.

I hope “Push It” puts you in a good space today like it did for me.

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: James Brown – “Sex Machine”

Mornin’ Readers!

The snow is falling this morning in Canada’s capital, and that has made for a few grouchy drivers as they rolled past my front window. Just about everyone at my home was not too thrilled to get out of bed to greet the day and get on with the work and school week, either.

For today’s MMMM pick, I turned to an artist who I knew could shake the fog out of my sleepy head and get me in a better mood: James Brown. I chose “Sex Machine” because the song gets you on your feet with its lick of “Get On Up,” and the beat makes me want to move! James Brown worked hard to get people dancing, and this song does the trick! “Sex Machine” is also a high energy song, so it gives me the boost I need to want to get on up and keep going for the day.

I hope that “Sex Machine” gets you going and smiling for the day on this mundane Monday morning!

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: LL Cool J – “Mama Said Knock You Out”

Mornin’ Readers!

It’s a new year, and just about everyone is dreading getting back into their normal routine. It was so hard to roll out of bed this morning and get clacking away.

I have been saving today’s MMMM pick for a while, waiting for today to play it, since I feel that it is a great fit for the first official work day after the holiday season.  Today, I chose to play LL Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out.” This is such an amazing song that has held up since it was released in 1990 (Yeah, I was shocked to see just how long ago this song was released as well)! It’s energetic, inspiring, fun, nostalgic and it makes me move! Oh, and, of course, getting to see LL Cool J first thing in the morning is an added bonus (HELLO)!!!!  😛 For me, these are all needed (and wanted) aspects to a great MMMM song!

I hope that “Mama Said Knock You Out” helps you fight to get back into your work routine with smile this morning!

Until my next post, Readers!

Mundane Monday Morning Music: Europe – “Final Countdown”

Mornin’ Readers!

Christmas is (sadly) behind us, and we are into the last few days of 2014.  This has been an amazing year for me, my family and for Reese Speaks, and I can’t wait to see what 2015 will bring!

I only thought that this morning’s MMMM pick should reflect the mood of the week: The coming of the New Year. That being said, I felt that I should choose Europe’s “Final Countdown.” For those of you who have to make the arduous trek into work this morning after celebrating Christmas, I thought that this song would put you in a much better mood.  I can’t help laughing and smiling whenever this song is being played.  It’s also so energetic and infectious that it makes me want to get a lot of work done today! I love this song! My “bosses” are head banging to it, and my eldest is teaching the others how to play air guitar to this song! 😛

I hope that you are strap on your air guitar and get yourself ready for the day with “Final Countdown” while you get ready for this year to end!

Until my next post, Readers!

Christmas Hit List: Mary J. Blige – “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”

Merry Christmas Readers!

This has to be one of my favourite days of the year! Being together with family is important to me, and though I am not with all of my extended family this year, I am so thankful that I have my other half and my kids to celebrate the day!

For today’s pick on my Christmas Hit List, I chose one of my favourite singers, Mary J. Blige, to help make the day just that much better.  I picked her version of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.” As usual, she put her amazing touch on this holiday classic. I could listen to this all day!

Readers, I wish nothing but the best for all of you today.  Have yourselves a merry little Christmas!

Until my next post, Readers!

Christmas Hit List: Mariah Carey – “All I Want For Christmas”

Hey, Readers!

Well, the Big Man in Red comes tonight! My kids are so excited, they have been waking up for the past week saying “It’s Christmas morning!” only for us to have to disappoint them when we informed them that it was not.

I know that Christmas is not all about the Santa and presents.  It’s also about being together with those you care about and showing them that you care.  That is why today’s pick for my Christmas Hit List is such a great one. It’s Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas.” You have probably heard this song soooooooooooooooo many times already this year, but I think that it’s the perfect song for today because it’s about wishing to be with someone you care about on Christmas.

I hope Santa is good to all of you tonight, and that all of your Christmas wishes come true this year, Readers!

Merry Christmas!

Until my next post, Readers!

My Favourite Christmas Movies – The Reese Edition

Hiya Readers,

Okay, so I have the kids pretty much sqaured away with my lists for television specials and movies for the family to enjoy, but what about us big kids? We like watching movies, too, right?  While we’re helping the Big Guy in Red out by wrapping gifts, or if we’re just winding down after a day of holiday fun, we like putting on our fav Christmas movies that are, well, not so much for little eyes and ears to watch.

Scrooge (A Christmas Carol – 1951)

This has to be one of my favourite non-Muppet version of this Charles Dickens tale.  I love how Alastair Sims portrayed  Ebenezer Scrooge in this film.  He was amazing in this role!

Die Hard 2 (1990)

I know, you’re questioning what this movie has to do with Christmas? Well, it takes place at Christmastime. How can you say no to all of the action and adventure of Sgt. John McLean saving the world, again, by blowing up a plane full of terrorists that thought they had the upper-hand? Though very violent and bloody, all of the explosions and fight scenes are classic, and Bruce Willis’ iconic line is also said, endearing him to millions.

Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001)

I know, it actually takes place in the course of about a year, but it begins and ends during the holiday season. I really love how Bridget gets herself into funny and slightly awkward situations. I felt as though I have been in Bridget’s shoes a time or two, so to see someone else do what I have done makes me really relate with her in these scenes. Below is one of those awkward scenes that really endears Bridget Jones to me at the Darcy’s Ruby Wedding celebration (around Chrsitmastime 🙂 )in front of all of the Darcy’s family and friends.

This Christmas (2007)

I enjoy watching this movie because it is about a family at Christmas that has to get it together and squash the problems they have in their lives. Sibling rivalries, testing parent/child relationships and dealing with family members old and new are all ley lements in this holiday film.  Oh, there’s also the oh-so beautiful Idris Elba to stare at for most of the film, too!  ;P

Love Actually (2003)

This Rom-Com Christmas flick is a favourite of mine because it has to have one of the best emsemble casts I’ve seen in a long time!  The stories of many of the characters make me want to laugh and cheer for their happiness, too!  Of course, Bill Nighy, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth stole the scenes they had lines in!

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)

I had to leave this one for the end of my post because this one is simply a Christmas classic!  If I don’t see this movie during the Christmas season, I really get upset.  It’s also my favourite of the classic National Lampoon series of movies.  All of the characters are crazy in one way or another, and no one could have pulled off being Clark “Sparky” Griswold better than Chevy Chase.

Whether you are counting down the hours until Christmas, or you just want to unwind from some of the havoc that this time of year brings, these movies will brighten your mood when the kids have gone to bed!

View and enjoy!

Until my next post, Readers!

Christmas Hit List: Brenda Lee – “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree”

Hey There, Readers!

We are almost there! The organized person that I am is still running around, getting more baking supplies and other things just to make sure we do not have to go find an open store on Christmas Day.  The “Bosses” are pleased with this because they get to go zooming about with me at Mach 10 speed!

I had to replay this song from last year on my Christmas Hit List! It is a favourite of many, and I’m sure you have heard it many times at Christmas parties or while you’re having fun at home, but it’s such a fun song that you could hear it again and again. Today’s pick is Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree.” So many memories come to mind whenever I hear this song! The “Bosses” even approve of this one, dancing and singing along as I play it from then while I’m typing this post (I’ve hit replay about four times by now)!

I hope you’re rockin’ around something right now while you listen to this song, and that it also helps you get into the mood of the season!

Until my next post, Readers!

My Favourite Christmas Television Specials

Hey, Readers!

It’s the beginning of Christmas vacation for many families (Yay). I have updated my list from last year so this list would only include Christmas TV specials. I have added a few extra specials we love watching at this time of the year.  Watching Christmas specials has been a tradition of mine since I was little, and now, my kids love watching them, too! Here is a list of my absolute favourite ones to watch (I couldn’t put them in order, as I like them all so much)!

wishing you a merry

A Charlie Brown Christmas I love this holiday special because it’s classic Charlie Brown trying to do right, yet goofing up along the way.  Oh, and The Vince Guaraldi Trio playing the score behind this special gets my family and I moving and grooving!  We also listen to the soundtrack of this TV special for part of Christmas Day every year while making breakfast.  Yeah, we love it THAT much!

The Grinch That Stole Christmas

Oh, how I love The Grinch!  Dr. Seuss’ adaptation from the popular Christmas story T’was The Night Before Christmas is loved by everyone in my household.  I think it is because The Grinch does all of these bad things to the residents in Whoville, then redeems himself at the end.  Well, it also has to do with the amazing job Dr. Seuss did with rewriting this tale, too!  It’s ingenious!

Frosty The Snowman

This one is one of my favourites partly because of the “evil” Magician. He’s probably the worst magician on the planet, yet when he throws his hat away and the children use it to finish off their snowman, the real magic begins. Another funny part in this TV special is when Frosty and the school children meet up with the traffic cop. The poor man never saw it coming!

A Garfield Christmas

This Christmas special is so dear to my family’s heart.  It has everything: slap-stick comedy, music, Garfield’s sarcasm and a bit of drama (tears begin to weld when Grandma is talking about her husband).   It’s a great one for the family to watch, and Garfield is the best cartoon cat ever!

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (Rankin-Bass/Classic Media version)

I had to save this one for last because this is the special most people think of when they think of Christmas specials.  It may look a bit kooky or creepy at times, but man, it doesn’t cease to entertain audiences.  It’s also one of the few Christmas specials that depicted Santa as a normal man who complains about life, and can be wrong about those around him.  I even love the Abominable Snow Monster! He used to be scary, but he’s simply amusing to me now!

I can (and have) watched all of these shows any time of the year!  I hope my short list gives you ideas as to how to get you and your family into the Christmas spirit this year!

What is your favourite Christmas TV special?

Until my next post, Readers!

Christmas Hit List: Jackson 5 – “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town”

Hey, Readers!

It’s Friday, and the last weekend before Christmas! I’m almost finished getting things to help the Big Guy out for my “bosses,” and we are all super excited that Christmas is almost here!

Since it is almost the weekend, I thought I would try to get you in a really good mood with my Christmas Hit List pick today. Today’s pick is one that so many artists have covered, but this has to be one of my favourite versions! It’s the Jackson 5’s “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town.” I couldn’t get a way with a Christmas Hit List without having MJ on it! this has been a favourite Christmas song of mine since I was a child, and it brings back so many great Christmas memories! Whenever I hear it, I’m literally dancing and singing. I also cannot help smiling, too. This song always puts me into the Christmas spirit, and is great to dance to at a party, or if you’re getting ready for the big day by wrapping presents, baking or decorating your home or tree.

I hope that he Jackson 5’s “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” takes you into the weekend in  a great mood, and helps you feel the spirit of the season!

Until my next post, Readers!
