Mundane Monday Morning Music: Teagan and Sara featuring The Lonely Island – “Everything Is Awesome”

Mornin’ Readers!

It’s another one of those gray “power suit” sweat pants and hoodie kind of mornings where I was really not in the mood to venture further than the foot of my bed.  Staying in my warm cocoon was not an option, as my “bosses” were letting me know that it was time to get day started (again, before the crack of dawn) and to hit the ground running.

After my mini breakfast and getting some initial items crossed off my Monday morning check list, I got this labour of love: Choosing my MMMM pick this week. Since the Oscars took place last night, I thought I would tip my hat to the songs that were nominated for Best Original Song. The songs in this year’s category were all fabulous, and last night’s winner, “Glory,” was so powerful and moving. I must tip my hat to John Stevens (John Legend) and Lonnie Lynn (Common…I learned his real name last night. You do learn something new everyday) for writing and performing such a beautiful song.

But “Glory” is not my MMMM pick this morning. There was one song out of last night’s nominees that seemed as though it was the frivolous one of the bunch, but if you think about the message of the song, it really does have a deeper meaning and is not as silly as it may seem. “Everything Is Awesome” from The LEGO® Movie is about looking at the positive side to every situation, and working together to make life better. It’s such a cute song, and, at first, you get caught up in the retro and bouncy feeling of the song. Along with the LEGO characters throughout this number in the movie, most people (me included) would miss the message the song was sending the first time they heard it.  I think this song is a great MMMM pick because it is inspiring, uplifting and fun to listen to.

I know this is going to come off as cheesy, but I really do hope that everything is awesome for you today on this mundane Monday morning!

Until my next post, Readers!

Reese’s 2014 Acadamy Awards Wrap-Up

Hey Readers!

Well, Oscar® Night has come and gone.  The dresses have spun their way across the Red Carpet, the pizza has been eaten, and the little golden guys have new homes with the winners of last night’s event.  With Ellen DeGeneres at the helm, the 86th Academy Awards was a night of fun, fashion and food!  To wrap it up for you, below are the winners from the categories I picked from a few days ago.

Best PictureCaptain PhillipsNope! I was wrong here! The winner was 12 Years a Slave. I thought Tom Hanks was going to pull a lucky rabbit out of his hat to get this win.

Best ActorChiwetel Ejifor (12 Years a Slave). Wrong, again! Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) got the statue in this category.

Best ActressCate Blanchette (Blue Jasmine) Yay! She looked gorgeous last night, too!

Best Supporting ActorBradley Cooper (American Hustle).  No, it was Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) who won in this category. Man, it’s not looking too good for my picks, is it?

Best Supporting ActressLupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave) She was beautiful in her gown last night, and her acceptance speech was so heart-felt.

Best Animated FilmFrozen. Yes, another correct pick, but this one was a no-brainer.

Best Original Song“Let It Go” (Frozen). This one was a tough pick.  It was a toss-up between this song and U2’s Original Love.  I’m glad I stuck with my pick!

I’m not sure why I didn’t have a pick for Best Director.  Alfonso Cuarón won the statue for Gravity.  This movie picked up just about every besides Best Actress (Sandra Bullock was nominated), and Best Picture.
Well, Readers, I had fun watching the big show last night.  It didn’t feel as though the night was dragging along at all!  I hope Ellen comes back next year to host.  She really did make the evening fun. Overall, from my picks for winners, I was about 60% on the money.  It’s not great, but it’s not bad, either.

How did your picks hold up?

Until my next post, Readers!

Reese’s 2014 Acadamy Awards Picks

Hey There Readers!

In three days, Hollywood is going to be buzzing with the 86th annual Academy Awards taking place Sunday evening!  Of course, I’m going to be watching to see what the celebrities are going to be wearing on the Red Carpet, but I’m always curious as to who will win the big awards from the past year in film as well!  Maybe I’ll even get dressed up for the occasion, too.

Below are my picks to win an Oscar® this year from some of the categories I like:

Best Picture – Captain Phillips

Best Actor – Chiwetel Ejifor (12 Years a Slave)

Best Actress – Cate Blanchette (Blue Jasmine)

Best Supporting Actor – Bradley Cooper (American Hustle)

Best Supporting Actress – Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave)

Best Animated Film – Frozen

Best Original Song – “Let It Go” (Frozen)

I had a hard time picking in the “Best Picture” and the  “Best Supporting Actor” categories because I think it could go to any of those nominated in those categories.

What do you think?  Am I totally out in left field about my predictions, or am I on the money this year?  Check out the link to the Oscar® Nominations here and let me know what you think!

Until my next post, Readers!
