Big Brother Season 16, Episodes #1 & 2: Welcome to the Jungle!

Hiya Readers!

They’re in! All 16 of this year’s BB16 Houseguests are in the House battling it out to walk away with the $ 500 000 prize.  All of them were so excited about starting the game, not knowing what laid in store for them this season.  How did they enjoy the new twists Julie Chen and the producers threw at them this season? Read on and you shall see!

NIGHT 1
The producers decided to make the season premiere a two-night event.  They split up the Houseguests so that one group of 8 would enter the House on Night 1 (June 25th) while the others entered Night 2 ( June 26th). As usual, Julie Chen was dressed to the nines in this amazing long red dress while exacting doom on welcoming the first group of Houseguests into the House. These players were: Paoula, Devin, Donnie, Frankie, Cody, Nicole, Amber and Joey.

Once all 8 were in the House and chose their beds, the players got acquainted with each other before the battling began.  Of course, some of the Houseguests were checking each other out for potential “future amusement” possibilities (Paoula and Cody), while others were sizing up their competition or figuring out how they were going to fake out their opponents (Donnie).

Once the Houseguests toasted their arrival in the BB House, Julie Chen popped up on the living room’s monitor to speak with them.  She announced to the Houseguests that one of them would become the first HoH of the season.  They all were excited by this news. She also dropped the bomb on the group that the HoH this season would not be safe as they had been in the past.  Most of the smiles left the faces of the players, wondering whether it was worth it to try to win this once coveted position.

After Julie Chen left the Houseguests to themselves for a bit, the ladies of the House got together and decided to form an all-girl alliance. Devin and Donnie also formed a secret alliance in the Storage Room.

HoH Competition #1: GO FLY A KITE
Julie then then reassemble the group to tell them to get ready for the first HoH competition of the summer. Once in the BB backyard, Julie Chen explained how the first comp of the season was going to work.

Each player was on a rolling log while hanging on to a tether.  The tether was attached to a kite that stayed up so long as they were pulling back on the tether.  It was an endurance challenge where the last person standing and their kite was still in the air became HoH.

While the rolling log and random sprays of “sunscreen”did its best to knock the players off balance, one Houseguest did manage to come out on top!  This is the order that the players dropped out of the comp:
Paoula, Joey, Nicole, Donnie, Devin, Cody, Amber (threw it), making Frankie the first HoH of BB 16!

After the Comp is over, the Houseguests are corralled into living room by Julie Chen.  She had Frankie sit in one of the specific orange chairs, then informs them that a second group of Houseguests will be joining them soon, and that a second HoH will be crowned from this group this week. Julie Chen also told them that there will also be only one of the HoH standing by the end of the week.  This, of course brought shock and awe to the Houseguests as they pondered what this season’s twist will affect them.

Julie Chen then ended the show by announcing another twist to the viewers. It’s Team America. The (American) viewers get to vote in the Houseguests that they would want to form an alliance with. These people would the be in a secret alliance, fulfilling missions chosen, again by the American viewers, in order to win $5 000 each per mission! The first member of Team America would be revealed during Night 2 of the season premiere.

NIGHT 2
Julie Chen wore a cute short hot pink dress to kick off Night 2 of the season premiere of BB 16. The final 8 contestants were ready to join the fun and festivities inside the House. These players are:
Caleb, Brittany, Christine, Derrick, Zach, Jocasta, Hayden and Victoria.

Once all inside the House, the first 8 told the second 8 of the first twist of the season (their separate HoH Comp and 2 HoHs this season). Once the news was out, more of the sizing up(some of the guys on each other), checking out (Caleb on Amber, Cody on Brittany) and strategy-making took place around the House.

Julie Chen then gathered the Houseguests back into the liv8ng room so she could tell them the second group of 8 about the two HoH Competition, and what it means for the game.

HoH Competition #2: OVER THE COALS
It was another endurance comp where the players had to hold on for dear life as they were being spun over the BB BBQ pit. The Houseguest who held on the longest would become the second HoH of the summer alongside Frankie. Here is the order in which the Houseguests literally fell out of this comp: Victoria, Brittany, Jacosta, Christine, Zach, Derrick, Hayden, leaving Caleb, who looked liked he was having the time of his life, as the winner.

Julie Chen then asks the Houseguests to return to the BB Living Room. She told the Houseguests that the HoH will each choose two nominees for Eviction. She also let them in on the second new twist of the game: Battle of the Block. Each week, the two pairs of nominees will battle head-to-head in a comp. The winning pair get to come off the Block. As well, he HoH that nominated the loosing pair of nominees gets stripped of their HoH powers, leaving only one soul HoH to rule the nest (almost quite literally since one of their beds jn the HoH Room is a nest-themed bed).

Julie Chen then let the Houseguests chew on this bit of info and then turned to the audience. She introduced the first member of Team America to all of us. This lucky individual is my Jody! She was pleased to have been chosen and can’t wait to get to work. She then instructed the audience to vote for the second member of this covert alliance in the House.

Well, Readers! That about wraps things up for the premiere episode of BB 16! It had a bit of everything, plus new twists to throw off the players’ strategy a bit. As you can see, the Houeeguests this season were thoroughly introduced to the game that could be like finding your way through a jungle in order to win it! Will actual showmances begin to blossom? How will Frankie and Caleb, who are polar opposites, fair as HoHs? Which HoH will be left standing after the Battle of the Block Comp? Pop back to my blog to find out about all of the action!

Until my next post, Readers!

Big Brother 15, Episode #1 – Let the Scheming and Backstabbing Begin!

Hey Readers!

It’s the premiere for BB15!  I have been patiently waiting for this since last year.  It’s been revealed that not two, but three House Guests are to be on the chosen for Eviction each week.  This certainly raises a player’s chances at being put in the chopping block.  Let’s go and find out how the first episode played out.

This season there are 16 House Guests competing for the $500 000 prize.  Julie Chen welcomed the viewers and the audience present wearing a fabulous pink dress, and introduced us to footage of the House Guests finding out they were chosen to compete on BB15.  Julie then has the House Guests come out in front of the set, and lets them into the House in groups of four.

Group #1         Group #2         Group #3         Group #4
Candice            Elissa                Helen                  Aaryn
GinaMaria      Jeremy            Jessie                 Amanda
Judd                  Kaitlin              Nick                    David
Andy                 McCrae            Howard              Spencer

Alliances were also beginning to form for some of the House Guests while they were exploring the House.  Elissa, who is past BB winner Rachel Reilly’s older sister, proposed to a bunch of the ladies in a room that they should create an all-girl alliance because it has never been done before. Most of them agreed with her idea, except for Jessie, who found Jeremy and David to forge their own alliance.  Then there was Howard, Jeremy and Spencer, who also agreed to try and work together as a group.

After some time went by, Julie Chen called the House Guests to the Living Room to inform them of the first major twist of the season.  Julie told them that three House Guests would be eligible for Eviction each week instead of two.  This, of course, shocked the House Guests.  She then turned off her connection to the House Guests and told the viewers and the live studio audience that the HoH would still be nominating two people, but a third party would be selecting the third nominee.  She left us in suspense, wondering who it could be. Based off of what was going on at CBS.com, I guessed it was going to be America (the home viewers) getting this honour. Judd then proposed a toast, saying, “May all of our backs be padded when we get stabbed in them!” All of the House Guests laughed and clinked their champagne glasses. That was one the best BB toasts I’ve ever heard! It was funny and hopeful.

At the first HoH Competition called Popsicle Factory, the House Guests had to hang on for dear life for this endurance challenge as they were swung around, sprayed at with jets of water and other manners of goo, and beat with a large pair of lips and a tongue.  This was the order the House Guests dropped out of the Competition: Judd, Howard, Amanda, Spencer, Helen, Candice, Jessie, Elissa, GinaMarie, Andy, Kaitlin, Aaryn.

At this point, since no one else was willing to drop, Julie presented the remaining House Guests with a prize.  The next two House Guests would be able to have the chance to find a “No Have Not” Pass in one of two lunch pails sitting before them for their entire time in the House.  They would be exempt from any Have Not punishments.  This enticed David to let go, only for him to have chosen the empty one.  Jeremy then jumped at the chance for this opportunity, winning the Pass by process of elimination.

This left Nick and McCrae to battle it out for HoH.  Nick proposed a deal to McCrae where Nick would be safe from nominations this week. I’m not sure if McCrae agreed with him to get him to drop first or if he’ll go through with the deal, but McCrae agreed and Nick fell first, making McCrae, the pizza delivery boy, this season’s first HoH. After this win, just about everyone in the House has become suspicious of who McCrae really is.

Backtracking a bit, Judd became suspicious of Elissa. During the HoH competition, he and other House Guests found some of her facial features familiar, as if they’d seen them on a former player. Then it hit Judd that she looked like Rachel and they were sister!  He didn’t let anyone else in on his revelation because information like this in the House is like having a $500 000 ticket handed to you. Elissa wouldn’t want this secret revealed!  It would create a HUGE target on her back.

Julie Chen then had the House Guests gather back into the living room to announce how the third nominee would be chosen.  Each week, America will be voting on who it thinks is the best player of the week, the BB MVP. This person will then secretly get to decide who the third nominee will be without their status being revealed. This is a huge advantage to anyone in the game, as it allows for that person to not to get blood on their hands while he or she is picking off an enemy or an ally. The first BB MVP will be chosen based on the strategies each of the House Guests revealed to America before they entered the House. The first BB MVP will be informed of their status after Tuesday’s Veto Competition.

Woohoo! Was that a great premiere episode or what! I think this is one of BB’s better twists they’ve come up with for the game. How will McCrae improve his social game after his reign of HoH is over? Who will become BB’s first MVP, and who will be this season’s first nominees? Hopefully, these questions will be answered in the next episode of Big Brother.

Until my next post, Readers!

Survivor: Caramoan (Fans vs. Favorites 2), Episode #1 – When Emotions Take Over

Hey Readers!

The next installment of Survivor is underway!  Twenty Castaways are in sunny Caramoan to duke it out to decide who will be the next million dollar winner of the game.  It is Survivor’s second time around with a Fans vs. Favourites theme.  I wasn’t so impressed with the group they assembled, but the few I liked make up for my disappointment in spades.  If you read my previous post, I spoke of my favs of the Favourites.  They were Malcolm, Cochran, and Phillip.  Yeah, if you have watched the last few seasons of this show, you’ll know what I mean.  After watching this episode, I’m still surprised that the Favourites are such emotional players, especially since they’ve been through this game before, allowing for paranoia to set in early in the game.  How did this happen? Read on, and you’ll see.

As most seasons of this game begin, Jeff Probst welcomed the Fans (or, as I will call them, Newbies) to Survivor, as well as to Caramoan.  Jeff also introduced them to the other group of people they would be competing against: the Favourites fans like themselves had voted for.  The Newbies were both elated, as well as in a competative mood, as each of the Favourites left the helicopter.  Jeff then gave each tribe their buffs.  The Newbies are called Gota, and the Favourites are called Bikal.

Once both sides sized each other up, Jeff Probst announced the first Reward Challenge for some flint and twenty pounds of beans, something a tribe could use to initially raise morale back at camp.  For this Challenge, two members from each tribe had to battle each other get a lifesaver ring from a post set offshore, then bring it back to their tribe’s post that was closer to the shore.  The catch: thee was only one ring, and the other tribe could do just about anything to take the ring from you and score for themselves.  The tribe that won five rounds first won the Challenge.  Well, Readers, it was a blow out.  The Favourites came to play, winning five out of the six rounds played.  This Challenge may have also sparked the beginnings of a feud between Fan Reynold and Favourite Malcolm.

Once they reached their beach, the Gota tribe marveled at the beauty of their beach and the long journey they had as they started their virgin adventure in the game.  They also began to set up their camp.  As usual, the men-folk felt they were the only ones capable to build their shelter.  This allowed for the women of their tribe to begin to make strategies and formed alliances.

Back at Gota, Shamar, biting back his military urges, was commenting on how he didn’t want to set himself as a leader for this tribe, but he wanted to be chosen by the tribe to fulfill this role.  He saw that the the rest of the tribe needed help starting fire without the aid of flint, so he waited until the right moment and created a spark to make fire.  The tribe cheered and congratulated him on his fire making skills.  Maybe Shamar’s plan will work?

Other sparks were flying between Reynold and Allie.  While wading in the blue ocean, they decided to become an alliance with Eddie and another female player.   They solidified their pact by using each other for body heat during the cold nights in Caramoan.  Other Castaways noticed how close Reynold and Allie were becoming and have begun to label them as a romance alliance.  Maybe these two should cool things down a bit, or else they will put an even bigger target in their backs, especially since it’s the beginning of the game.  Other Castaways will this as a reason to vote you off.

At Bikal, the Favourites also began setting up their camp.  Both sexes took part in this event.  The only thing that was holding them back a bit was good old.Phillip trying to be the “leader,” giving advice to anyone around him.

While this was happening, Francesca, Dawn and Andrea agreed to form an alliance straightaway.  Francesca also tried to bury the hatchet with Phillip after their last encounter on Survivor: Redemption Island,  but Phillip, hard-headed as he is, turned his back on her olive branch.

While eating, Phillip decided he would take the lessons he learned from his Survivor “Yoda,” Boston Rob, and try to make everyone feel like family, as.well as try to form alliances within alliances.  Some of the other Castaways caught on to his futile attempts, and caulked it up to Phillip being Phillip.

Cochran was feeling the heat early in the game , especially on his feet!  Yes, Readers, Cochran had a sunburn on his feet already.  He then turned as red as his feet as the rest of his tribe learned of his condition.

At the Immunity Challenge, two players from each team had to race up certain levels of a structure to find two crates (twelve in all), and throw them over the side to crash on the ground to release the two sandbags within them.  Then two other members of their tribe had to retrieve these sandbags to then toss into six targets.  The winning tribe would win Immunity, and if the Fans won, hey would also receive flint.  Once again, it was a blow-out, but it was in the Newbies’ favour! Malcolm was bested by his new rival, Reynold, bringing the Immunity Idol to the Gota tribe.

Once Bikal got back to their camp, it was game-on for scrambling.  Everyone was hustling, running around, sharing tidbits of information to.each other as they were trying to decide who should go home.  Andrea has become quite the strategist, rallying many of her tribe mates together in getting rid of Francesca because she didn’t trust her.  What happened to your alliance with Francesca?  Alarm bells went off when this information got back to Francesca, and she was on the move, trying to get support to get rid of Andrea.  Cochran and Dawn decided to pair back up again, and they were si confused as who they should vote out, that they were going to put their support where the numbers were to avoid being targeted themselves.  Again, your alliance to Francesca, Dawn?  What happened to it?

At Tribal Council, Jeff Probst had the Favourites light their torches, representing their life in the game, and letting them know that, soon, one of their torches would be snuffed out.

The topics brought up at Tribal Council were who was running their tribe, the continuing feud between Phillip and Francesca, and llaying on a tribe of returning players.  They told Jeff that no one was really running their tribe.  Where Phillip and Francesca were concerned, Phillip continued to be a jerk toward Francesca.  As for playing with returning players, Andrea tried to downplay her skills while giving her opinion, and Cochran said that the tempo of the game is faster for them because they are all expecting to be blindsided, so paranoia has already begun to spread within their camp.

Jeff Probst revealed the vote.  It was a close one, Readers! It was a 6-4 vite to have Francesca be the first Castaway to leave the game this season.  Francesca also made Survivor history by being the first Castaway to be the first player to leave the game on two different seasons.  That really sucks.  I think this was the right move for the Favourites gang  because Francesca didn’t really bring any strength to the Bikal tribe.  I’m no fan of Andrea as a player, but the Favourites will need Andrea down the line to go a bit further in the game.

Well, Readers, we are on our way in this new season of Survivor.  See what happens when just a bit of negative information gets spread about you in this game? I wonder how this will play itself out? Hopefully, the Favourites will get out their funk and work together to take the Newbies out.  We’ll find out when the next episode airs.

Until my next post, Readers!

Big Brother 14, Episode #1: Last One Picked, First One Out!

Hey There Readers!

Well, another season of BB has begun!  With my bowl of popcorn in one hand and the remote to adjust the volume in the other, I was anxiously awaiting the BB theme music to begin and to see what viewers were in for this season.

This season began as they usually do. For those readers who are not familiar with the BB game, Julie Chen (the host of BB) opened the episode by welcoming viewers to the premiere from outside the BB House (a set on the CBS lot), and viewers got to see a glimpse into the lives of the Newbies to BB.  Julie then let out a bombshell with two new developments to this season’s game.  The first one was that one of the Newbies would be exiting BB by the end of the episode.  Poor person, they won’t even get a chance to unpack their official BB duffel bag!

The other bit of news is that the returning house guests would not be playing against the Newbies, but they would be coaching the Newbies to try and get them further in the game!  This twist works to the Newbies’ advantage, as well as to their potential downfall.  It will help the Newbies because they will get knowledge about BB that they usually would have to figure out for themselves and could advance them throughout the season. It could hinder the Newbies because other players could associate them with their coach, making them targets in the game as well.

Once all of the house guests are in the BB House, Julie Chen popped up on the big screen to let them in one the first of many twists for this season where the returning coaches are concerned.  As expected,  the house guests went crazy trying to figure out who would be joining them this summer. The doorbell rang, and each of the returning house guests making their return to the BB House.  I was right about three of the four previous players making another go in this game.  These players are Dan, Janelle, Brittany and Mike “Boogie”.  Julie then announced that each coach  would have three Newbies to mentor throughout this season, and the coach with the winning player of this season will receive $100 000. This has never been done, and I like this twist because it puts another wrinkle into the game, as well as to the strategies the Newbies had before entering this game.  They have to weigh their self-interest in winning with that of their coach.

Julie Chen was just bursting with news for the house guests that night! They were also told that the wining team’s coach would choose the first HoH of the season.  On a sour note, Julie also let the house guests know that the first player would be leaving the BB House by the end of the Head of Household (HoH) competition.  The decision of who would leave would be up to the coach of that player.  Sighs of ooooooooooooohs and ahhhhhhhhhs were heard throughout the house.  They were then directed outside so the teams could be picked, and the HoH competition could begin.  Here are the break-downs of each team in the order they were chosen by each coach:

Brittany – Shane, Willie and Jojo

Mike – Frank, Ian and Jenn

Janelle – Wil, Ashley and Joe

Dan – Kara, Danielle and Jodi

After the wonky Mattress Madness competition, Team Brittany came out on top, while Team Dan came last place.  Brittany chose Willie as the first HoH of BB 14.  The house guests then went inside, and Dan had to then decide which of his three players was going to leave the game.  After speaking to Danielle and Jodi, he announced that his last pick, Jodi, would be seeing Julie Chen much earlier than she expected.

Oh, the drama!  Oh, poor Jodi leaving the BB House so early!  I wonder what will happen on Sunday night…

Until my next post, Readers!
