My Favourite Christmas Movies – The Reese Edition

Hiya Readers,

Okay, so I have the kids pretty much sqaured away with my lists for television specials and movies for the family to enjoy, but what about us big kids? We like watching movies, too, right?  While we’re helping the Big Guy in Red out by wrapping gifts, or if we’re just winding down after a day of holiday fun, we like putting on our fav Christmas movies that are, well, not so much for little eyes and ears to watch.

Scrooge (A Christmas Carol – 1951)

This has to be one of my favourite non-Muppet version of this Charles Dickens tale.  I love how Alastair Sims portrayed  Ebenezer Scrooge in this film.  He was amazing in this role!

Die Hard 2 (1990)

I know, you’re questioning what this movie has to do with Christmas? Well, it takes place at Christmastime. How can you say no to all of the action and adventure of Sgt. John McLean saving the world, again, by blowing up a plane full of terrorists that thought they had the upper-hand? Though very violent and bloody, all of the explosions and fight scenes are classic, and Bruce Willis’ iconic line is also said, endearing him to millions.

Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001)

I know, it actually takes place in the course of about a year, but it begins and ends during the holiday season. I really love how Bridget gets herself into funny and slightly awkward situations. I felt as though I have been in Bridget’s shoes a time or two, so to see someone else do what I have done makes me really relate with her in these scenes. Below is one of those awkward scenes that really endears Bridget Jones to me at the Darcy’s Ruby Wedding celebration (around Chrsitmastime 🙂 )in front of all of the Darcy’s family and friends.

This Christmas (2007)

I enjoy watching this movie because it is about a family at Christmas that has to get it together and squash the problems they have in their lives. Sibling rivalries, testing parent/child relationships and dealing with family members old and new are all ley lements in this holiday film.  Oh, there’s also the oh-so beautiful Idris Elba to stare at for most of the film, too!  ;P

Love Actually (2003)

This Rom-Com Christmas flick is a favourite of mine because it has to have one of the best emsemble casts I’ve seen in a long time!  The stories of many of the characters make me want to laugh and cheer for their happiness, too!  Of course, Bill Nighy, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth stole the scenes they had lines in!

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)

I had to leave this one for the end of my post because this one is simply a Christmas classic!  If I don’t see this movie during the Christmas season, I really get upset.  It’s also my favourite of the classic National Lampoon series of movies.  All of the characters are crazy in one way or another, and no one could have pulled off being Clark “Sparky” Griswold better than Chevy Chase.

Whether you are counting down the hours until Christmas, or you just want to unwind from some of the havoc that this time of year brings, these movies will brighten your mood when the kids have gone to bed!

View and enjoy!

Until my next post, Readers!

Reese.
